‘What?’

‘To be away from you.’ He winked at her. ‘To control my emotions.’

‘You should have come,’ she smiled.

‘To be caught by him! Great husband of yours.’

‘He sleeps tight,’ she said, rolling her eyes. ‘Even an earthquake cannot wake him.’

‘But you would be tired.’ He ran his tongue over her upper lip. ‘After the first round with him.’

‘No. Not every day,’ she said, shaking her head. ‘He gets aroused by something on the television.’

‘Your voluptuous body cannot arouse him!’

‘Is that the case for you with your wife?’ she asked, lifting her eyebrows. ‘Does her body, when naked, arouse you?’

Silence.

He did not answer. She was right.

‘But my attachment to you is increasing with each day,’ he said at last.

‘Because you know that I am someone else’s. It is the joy of stealing someone else’s property.’ She stayed silent for some time before continuing. ‘Even your craze for me might have started diminishing by now.

Teardrops rolled down from her eyes.

He lifted her face and kissed her lips. There was no response from her.

‘I’ll not leave you. Our love will continue. Come, what may,’ he said, trying to placate her.

‘This is not love,’ she said, moving away from him and lying on her back. ‘This is lust. We both know our bodily requirements. This is an adjustment to meet the same.’

‘No, this is love.’ He closed his eyes. ‘This is love.’

‘Don’t you love Aruna?’ Nina asked, turning to Raj.

‘Yes. I love her too.’

‘How much love is filled in you, Raj?’ Nina’s voice was heavy. ‘That you can distribute it to every woman around.’

‘I…I…’

‘I know you give love to Jaya too,’ she snapped. ‘This is just an adjustment to meet our needs.’

‘Then let’s fulfil our needs.’ He had a wicked smile. ‘The basic physical need after food, shelter and clothing.’

‘In fact, it is the first one,’ she said, smiling. ‘One can leave food, cloth or shelter for sex.’

He laughed, thinking that condition. He pinned her down on the bed. As he was about to enter her, someone rang the bell. He stood up hurriedly. She jumped down, gathering her clothes. She slipped into them in a minute.
